Currency: Egyptian Pound (EGP) or Livre Egyptien (LE), or locally called Ginea.
There are 100 Piasters in the Pound. The 5, 10 & 25 Piasters “irsh locally” are available in coin and paper form. The 1, 5, 10, 20, 50,100 pound denominations are all in paper form only.
You can exchange currency and traveler’s checks at most major banks, airports, large hotels, or at any money exchange centers. Banks in Egypt are open from Sunday to Thursday, generally from 9:00 am to 2 pm. Well-known brands of travelers Cheques will be honored everywhere, although having travelers' Cheques in US dollars, Euros or UK pounds will prove the most hassle-free.
American Express, Visa, MasterCard, JCB and Euro cards are accepted at many stores and restaurants. Establishments that accept credit cards will normally post the credit card logos on their front windows. Automatic Teller Machines “ATMs” are numerous and easy to find in Egypt . Most ATMs use the Cirrus or Plus networks, so make sure the ATM you are using has the same symbol of network as the one on your card.
